Each section in this fifth anniversary issue takes a line from a poem by Emily Dickinson (1830–1886) as its starting point. It pays homage to hundreds of artists from the past century and from all over the globe in an effort to create space for overlooked or underappreciated names in art. Besides being a celebration of artist Catherine de Zegher’s work, from which this issue takes its inspiration, it is also a critical reminder of the work that remains to be done to elevate commentary by women artists on the world. Featuring Josephine Meckseper, Wangechi Mutu, Ana Mendieta, Julie Mehretu, Lygia Pape, Sheila Hicks, Jananne Al-Ani, Georgia O’Keefe, Nasreen Mohamedi, and more.
